Programs will return to the museum two weekends a month starting January 14

DETROIT (January 11, 2022) Two popular family art-making programs will return to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) this month, with Drawing in the Galleries and Drop-In Workshops resuming the weekend of January 14.

The free programs will be offered two weekends a month and all materials are provided. Masks are required for all visitors to the DIA, regardless of vaccination status. To control capacity, admission to the museum must be reserved in advance online at www.dia.org or by calling 313-833-7900. Admission is free for DIA members and residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

“We are looking forward to the return of both of these popular family programs,” said Zachary Frieling, DIA Studio Coordinator. “After almost two years of creating art-making projects for families at home, we are looking forward to welcoming them back in person.”

Drawing in the Galleries returns to Friday nights in various locations throughout the museum. During this program, artists and instructors from the DIA's Studio Department will be on hand to help visitors create unique pencil drawings to take home while taking a closer look at the collection. No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Capacity is limited.
