Detroit Institute of Arts volunteers awarded at Oct. 15 Volunteer Council annual meeting | Eight volunteers honored in various categories

October 23, 2018 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Volunteer Council hosted its 56th Annual Meeting on Oct. 15, where it presented Volunteer of the Year awards in each of six service committees as well as two special service awards. From July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018, 757 volunteers contributed 66,576 hours in service to the museum, equating to $1.6 million in economic value.
“Our dedicated volunteers are a vital part of providing the educational benefits and visitor services that make the museum a welcoming place for learning and enjoyment,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director.
The awardees are:
Dorothy Menefee, Detroit Detroit Film Theatre Usher
Mark Schwing, Detroit Gallery Information
Gerald Klein, Fraser Gallery Service
Michael Pisa (deceased), Bloomfield Hills Interpretive Programs Volunteer
Judith Douglas, Southfield Museum Shop Volunteer
Barbara Quilty, Northville Staff Aide
Theophilus Heath, Detroit Luther Chaney Sunshine Award for customer service
Judith Garvey, Grosse Pointe Woods Distinguished Service Award for longtime service
Milestone anniversary pins were also awarded, with the highest level this year given to Adeline Firnschild of Grosse Ile and Sharon Hurlbert of Clarkston in recognition of their 35 years of service.
