September 28, 2016 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) was awarded a $300,000 grant from the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation and a $210,000 grant from The Kresge Foundation this month. Both awards will help support three years of general operating costs not funded by the generous tri-county millage, which funds about 70 percent of the museum’s operating budget.
The Erb Family Foundation’s Anchor Arts program funds arts organizations that have had historical significance to the Erb family, as well as other Detroit arts organizations that help foster vibrant neighborhoods. Since 2009, the Anchor Arts program has awarded $12.52 million in general operating funds to various arts institutions through the program. The Erb family has supported the DIA for more than 40 years.
The Kresge Foundation is committed to expanding opportunities in America’s cities. The recent Detroit Arts Support grant to the DIA is from Kresge’s Detroit Program, which collaborates with civic, nonprofit and business partners to promote long-term, equitable opportunity in the foundation’s hometown. Kresge has been a supporter of the DIA since 1949.
“The DIA is creating experiences that bring people together, to learn from and understand each other through art,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “These gifts will help the DIA support a vibrant and engaged community in southeast Michigan and throughout the state.”
