Studio staff took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a school mural
The DIA has partnered with Margaret Black Elementary School for the last four years as part of our Art Discovery Program. Through this program, fourth and fifth grade students at three tri-county schools visit the museum three times a year, participating in art discussions in the galleries and related art-making experiences in the studio.
This year, students created individual pieces of art on foam core tiles focusing on the themes of neighborhood and home. DIA studio staff arranged the tiles by class onto six panels and installed them on the walls of the school’s cafeteria, leaving a legacy piece for future students to appreciate and enjoy.
A short ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in school’s cafeteria on June 12, 2018. Speakers included Principal Khris Nedam, DIA Director of Studio Programs Charles Garling, Commissioner Joe Romano, and two students who participated.
