Detroit Institute of Arts announces new Board Members | Five new members bring variety of experience, expertise to DIA board

December 13, 2019 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) announces the election of five new board members at its Board of Directors meeting on Nov. 13. They are: Dr. Charles Boyd, plastic surgeon, art collector and board member of the DIA auxiliary group Friends of African and African American Art; Richard A. Brodie, former DIA board member, member of the DIA Collections Committee, and owner of Wico Metal Products; Christine Giampetroni, former chair of the DIA’s Friends of Prints, Drawings and Photographs auxiliary group and a member of the Women’s Committee; Matt Lester, member of the DIA Collections Committee, founder and CEO of Princeton Enterprise & co-founder and partner of Secret Sauce Capital; and Mohammad Qazi, founder and president of Ciena Healthcare.
“Our new board members bring a wealth of expertise and experience with them, and we appreciate their service,” said Eugene A. Gargaro, Jr., DIA board chair. “It’s an exciting time at the DIA as we continue to serve as a leader in education and as a community cultural resource for our region.”
Rick Rogers, Raj Vattikuti, and Wayne & Joan Webber were elected as honorary members.
Dr. Charles Boyd, plastic surgeon and collector
Dr. Boyd is an internationally recognized facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with offices in Detroit, Birmingham and Ann Arbor. A graduate of Harvard Medical School and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, he has served as a faculty member at U of M for more than 14 years and served as the associate chief of staff of the U of M Health System.
Dr. Boyd currently serves on the boards of Bethany Kids, a non-profit that provides healthcare to children in East Africa, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and his undergraduate alma mater, Howard University. He is a collector and is a member of the DIA’s Friends of African and African American Art (FAAAA) auxiliary. Drs. Charles and Anne Boyd chaired the DIA’s 2019 Gala.
Richard A. Brodie, former board member and owner of Wico Metal Products
Brodie has served on the DIA’s Collections Committee since 2003. He previously served on the DIA’s Board from 2001 – 2010. Brodie has also been a member of the DIA’s Development, Executive, and Finance committees. He is an active member of the community and currently serves on the board of the Michigan Opera Theatre and is a Director Emeritus of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He and his wife Joanne Brodie have been members of the museum for more than forty years.
Christine Giampetroni, former DIA auxiliary chair and committee member
Christine is the past chair of the DIA’s Friends of Prints, Drawing, and Photographs auxiliary and assistant secretary of the Women’s Committee. Giampetroni is currently a member of the Education & Interpretation Committee. Giampetroni and her husband John served as 2015 Fash Bash co-chairs and have been members of the museum for nine years.
Matt Lester, Founder and CEO of Princeton Enterprise & Co-founder and Partner of Secret Sauce Capital
Lester is an alumnus of the University of Michigan (B.A.) and the University of Southern California (J.D.). He is a board member of Jewish Senior Life and a member of the DIA’s Collections Committee. He and his wife Nicole served as 2019 Fash Bash co-chairs.
Mohammad Qazi, Founder and President of Ciena Healthcare
Qazi serves on the Board of the U.S. Pakistan Business Council and is an active member of the community at home and abroad, particularly in Pakistan. He is the president and chair of the Qazi Foundation, which supports and funds healthcare, education and self-employment programs and organizations in the U.S. and Pakistan. He is an emerging collector of Pakistani artists and a 2018 Fash Bash co-chair.

9 a.m.–4 p.m. Tuesdays–Thursdays, 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. General admission (excludes ticketed exhibitions) is free for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county residents and DIA members.
